Breaking News ! A drug dealer has been spared jail after a police raid uncovered £30,000 of cocaine and a number of lethal weapons stashed in his bedroom. Officers found the illicit items - including a machete and a baton - hidden in a safe in the wardrobe of Karlton Cheetham. Cocaine discovered in the 31-year-old's Trafford home had a street value of more than £100,000. But Cheetham, of Gibson Way, Broadheath in Altrincham, walked free after the court heard how had become indebted as a result of his own addiction. He was also subjected to intimidation and assaulted by those to whom he was indebted. Cheetham pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply at The Nightingale Court in Salford on April 1. He originally pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, but later changed his plea to guilty. At a sentencing hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court, the court heard how in May, 2019 police entered his address in Trafford to execute a search warrant and found a safe in the wardrobe in his bedroom. A number of weapons as well as balaclavas and cable ties were also recovered from his bedroom along with notepads with dealers tick notes. Prosecuting, Hugh McKee, said Cheetham had previous convictions of battery in 2017 and prior to that of possession of cannabis and cocaine.

. A cash amount of £270 was also recovered. Defending, Gemma Maxwell said Cheetham was "fully compliant" with police and pleaded guilty of possession with intent to supply cocaine. She said Cheetham has been involved in charity work and has kicked his own addiction to drugs. She said she was aware he was indebted as a result of his own addiction and accepted he was subjected to intimidation and had been assaulted by those to whom he was indebted. But she added: "Whatever the truth is of your involvement, these items were recovered from your house." Cheetham pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class B, producing a controlled drug of class B and possessing with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A. Miss Johnston sentenced Cheetham to two years imprisonment suspended for 18 months, 100 hours unpaid work and ten rehabilitation activity requirement days to run concurrently with a 12 month sentence suspended for 18 months. She said in summary: "You have a two year prison sentence hanging over you for the next 18 months. "I have every confidence that you won't be back in this court."
