Breaking News ! Small businesses have criticised the government's extension of Leicester's coronavirus lockdown - claiming the measures "won't make a difference" there. The Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the national lockdown easing would not take place in Leicester - meaning pubs, hairdressers and restaurants will not be able to open alongside other areas of England on July 4. Furthermore, non-essential shops in the East Midlands city have been shut from today and most schools will close their doors on Thursday and mobile testing units are in place after a spike in coronavirus cases. Robin Dignall, the owner of city centre Hair@1RD hairdressers , told the Press Association, he "needs to get the customers back in". He said: "We were all geared up ready to open on July 4 but, from reading the government guidelines, they clearly haven't consulted anybody in our profession. "Obviously money's going out but there's nothing coming in at the moment so from a business point of view yes, we do need to get the customers back in." Rakesh Parmar, who owns Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe, said he will be impacted "financially very, very badly".
