MetiNews.Com - While you can travel abroad you will need to show a negative coronavirus test
Breaking News ! As of May 17 we can all travel abroad for leisure - something we've been longing to do for months. However, it's not as simple as it was pre-pandemic. As they did last year, the government have implemented a traffic light system with countries labelled green, amber and red, denoting how safe they are to travel to and what you'll have to do on return. Only countries listed as 'green' will allow you to avoid self-isolating - but even then you'll need to provide a negative coronavirus test on arrival at your destination and on return to the UK. It seems a small price to pay for a week on the beach, but these tests can be pricey with some costing up to £300 at times, reports HertsLive. While testing rules are different for each level of the traffic light travel system, all returning travellers require a minimum of two coronavirus tests. However travelling to an amber listed country requires a minimum of three tests being taken and a fourth can be taken to cut the quarantine period to five days if negative.
Which Covid test do you need to travel? There are two types of Covid test - a PCR test and a Lateral Flow test. The government has not specified whether the pre-departure Covid test in your holiday destination should be a PCR or Lateral Flow. But when you return to the UK, you'll be required to take the PCR test. A list of private providers of PCR coronavirus tests is available on the government's website. Prices range from £150 to £350 for a testing kit. How to book a TUI PCR Covid test The cheapest testing kits available are through TUI which range from £20 to £90pp depending on where you're going. TUI has teamed up with Chronomics to offer its cheaper tests, which will include the delivery and return costs of the kits.
