Breaking News ! After months of waiting, we’re finally able to visit a hairdresser and get those grown out roots under control. Hairdressers, barbers, bars and restaurants were given the green light to reopen on July 4, while nail salons, tattoo studios and spas were able to open from July 13. Earlier this month, we took a trip to a newly reopened nail salon to see what it was like , and now we’ve done the same with a Liverpool hairdresser. I’ll be honest, getting my hair done has been one of the things I’ve most been looking forward to now that lockdown restrictions have eased somewhat. This week, after months of waiting, I took a trip to my local hair salon and it was an oddly familiar experience. After so many rules and regulations - and a fair amount of waiting around - put in place in order for the venues to reopen, I had expected it to be a much more intense experience. I had to book my appointment well in advance, especially since hairdressers are so in demand after months of being closed. I arrived with a face mask already in place, though I did appreciate that there was a box of disposable masks on the front desk, which all customers were asked to use if they didn’t have their own. Customers were also asked to sanitise their hands before fully entering the shop.

Even with face masks in place, the usual salon chatter put me at ease and it definitely was nice to see some things getting back to some sort of normal. While a complete colour change on the books, there was no doubt I’d be there a while, which is why I had expected to feel uncomfortable but this was not the case. Wearing a face mask for such an extended period of time - around three hours - was a little difficult, but it definitely helped me feel more at ease being around other people and in such close proximity. All payment was via card and back transfer too, so there was unnecessary contact. We’re all still getting used to the ‘new normal’ that is life after lockdown, but people are clearly adapting already.
