MetiNews.Com - Randox Health runs a clinic in Liverpool aimed at identifying illness as well as operating testing facilities
Breaking News ! Grand National sponsor Randox Health is looking out for Liverpool's wellbeing with a range of healthcare packages and Covid-19 testing facilities in the city. Aiming to help the people of Liverpool to "live longer and healthier lives," the 35-year-old Northern Ireland-based research and development company has a clinic at the Exchange Station building on Tithebarn Street. The company rose to prominence across the UK in 2017 as the title sponsor of Aintree's annual Grand National festival, renaming it the Randox Grand National, but it's also working to transform the way illnesses are diagnosed and treated by encouraging people to take a proactive rather than a reactive approach to their health. Randox provides a health check packages for people in and around the city and, during the pandemic, has also been running Covid-19 testing operations throughout Liverpool and the UK, regulated and approval determined by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHCS). Proactive healthcare packages Randox Health offers healthcare packages that can be specifically tailored to individuals' needs at its city centre clinic, with assessments looking to provide a detailed analysis of general health as well as an overview of their current wellbeing to detect issues at the earliest stage. An 'Everyman/Everywoman' package provides insight into 150 key health markers. There are also specialised testing and signature tests that can provide up to 350 results. Patients are given a detailed report which is followed up by a consultation with a medical expert to offer a roadmap for the next six months, recommending lifestyle changes and outlining any issues that may arise. Randox offers repeat testing after six months as standard, enabling patients to continuously monitor their health status and track progress. Meanwhile Randox Genetic Testing Services works to detect inherited forms of cancer, with testing targeting 94 genes and 284 specific regions associated with a genetic predisposition towards various cancers. Cardiac genetic testing can also be carried out to detect heart diseases which are not associated with lifestyle, and this covers 174 genes associated with inherited heart disease. Randox Health's Liverpool clinic is based in Exchange Station Dominic Bennett, scientific officer for Randox Health, has been working at the Liverpool clinic for almost three years and explained: "We want to make people live longer, healthier lives. When you walk into our clinic we have a bold sign saying 'extend your life' and I think that perfectly summarises our ethos. "People often think having a health check is a long and invasive process which can cost a fortune but here we simply take a blood test and a urine sample - the whole process takes just 20 minutes. We even have perspex glass with a view directly into the lab so you can see what happens every step of the way after we've taken your sample. "You can call us up and get these tests done almost immediately. As we know, some people are unable or unwilling to see their GPs at the moment and if they are concerned about their health that's where we can step in." Covid-19 testing As a research and development company, Randox Health has been well placed to help with the Covid-19 pandemic and has developed its own accurate and reliable tests and testing facilities for both individuals and businesses. Services include Gold Standard PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing for active infection, Rapid Antigen Testing which provides affordable lateral flow tests in under one hour, and antibody testing that measures antibodies in the blood. Proud of the efforts the company has made to help pioneer research and deliver accurate testing kits, Dominic said: "Very early on in the pandemic it became clear that people with pre-existing lifestyle diseases such as obesity and diabetes were far more at risk of developing serious Covid-19 complications.
. Covid-19 has really exposed those vulnerabilities of poor health and that it's not ok to leave pre-existing health conditions untreated and allow them to develop over time."
Randox Health provides Covid test results within three hours
Randox aims to provide accurate PCR results within just three hours at its clinic, however some factors may cause this to change. The company also uses its Randox qPCR kits, which have been validated to be 100% accurate when appropriately collected and tested. Variations in sample collection quality, transport and testing can affect the accuracy of tests. The company offers testing at major airports and partner clinics too, and is working with businesses which require quick tests for employees. Dominic added: "Companies can hire our mobile testing units to get fast results. Rather than having groups of people leave work for a few hours, we come to you and provide the tests and results on site for convenience. "With some Covid-19 testing services you may have to wait up to 48 hours to hear back regarding results, and during this delay people could be infecting others in the workplace. We can endeavour to make sure everyone knows their results on the same day, and as a result minimise transmissibility." Although Randox does strive to provide results on the same day in some cases delays may occur. Accessible healthcare With Randox Health's health care packages starting from £500 a year and monthly debit options available, Dominic said: "Prior to Covid-19 there was a bit of misunderstanding around private healthcare with people thinking it was only available through insurance policies and employee packages. "However with the privatisation of Covid-19 testing, particularly passengers having to book through private clinics for pre-flight testing, people are being exposed to the wider portfolio private clinics offer and are quickly realising it may be more accessible." Randox prides itself on working closely with the NHS and offerinf an alternative for people seeking a more bespoke service. Dominic added: "Our aim has never been to take anything away from the NHS - we work tirelessly alongside it in the national testing programme and providing agents for their own laboratory work. "We want to work hand in hand with it to help people who have certain needs. We can provide a more personalised and individual healthcare, referring people back into the NHS if that's the best action, or we can help with our own GPs. "We can help relieve some of the strain on the NHS by helping people to live healthier lives absent of preventable disease which can eventually reduce the huge financial burden that lifestyle diseases currently place on it."
