Breaking News ! The Premier League CEO has branded the actions of celebrating Liverpool supporters on the Pier Head as "regrettable and wrong". Richard Masters said that the division are in constant dialogue with their clubs over the responsibilities they have to ensure social distancing rules are adhered to as best as possible. However, Masters did suggest that football fans celebrating was merely an extension of others areas of society that have breached the same rules during the country's nationwide lockdown. After gatherings outside Anfield and the city centre following Liverpool's confirmation as champions on Thursday evening, around 7,000 people poured onto the city's waterfront on Friday night to mark the club's first league title since 1990. Footage later emerged on social media of a firework being aimed at the city's famous Liver Building with a 19-year-old man appearing before District Judge Paul Healey at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Monday morning. "I've said what happened that night is regrettable and wrong," said Masters. "We're not in control of individuals' actions and maybe it is possible to celebrate with social distancing. "Lots of people left their homes that night with the intention of doing very much that.

. "It's pretty much an extension of that where individuals have to take responsibility for their own actions. "We are in constant dialogue with all of our clubs about these issues, constantly reminding them of their responsibilities and we know they take those responsibilities very seriously. "In the end, individuals have to take responsibility for their actions." After the scenes on Friday evening, the club released a joint statement with Merseyside Police, the city council and supporters' union Spirit of Shankly. It read: "Throughout the last week, Liverpool Football Club, Merseyside Police, Liverpool City Council and Spirit of Shankly have worked together to consistently remind people that the region is still disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and ask people to celebrate LFC’s Premier League title win safely. "Several thousand people turned up at the Pier Head on Friday June 26 and some chose to ignore the social distancing guidance and risk public safety. "Our city is still in a public health crisis and this behaviour is wholly unacceptable."
