Breaking News ! Merseyside Police have confirmed they are looking into a complaint after a man was arrested at yesterday's anti-lockdown protests. Video has been circulating on social media that shows a number of police officers restraining a man on the floor in Church Street. Police officers can be heard shouting 'stay still' and 'stop struggling' in the video, while protesters chant 'shame on you'. Three officers are then seen trying to detain the man before the video showed one of them using mace spray on him. A number of other police officers surrounded the incident. Several videos showing the arrest have been shared on social media, with some claiming that police were 'punching' or acting 'brutally'.
. “He has been released under investigation. “Merseyside Police has received a complaint relating to the arrest and enquiries are ongoing into the matter.” It was later confirmed that the man was one of the 13 people arrested at the unlawful gathering. Originally 15 people had been arrested at the protests but two people were de-arrested and 13 were taken into custody. Officers also issued 25 fixed penalty notices for breach of Covid legislation and 10 dispersal notices.
