Breaking News ! A person has died after being hit by a train this morning. The tragedy happened just after 9.30am after reports of an accident in the Hightown area in Sefton. An ambulance and rapid response vehicles sped to the scene after emergency services were alerted. Paramedics were also in attendance but sadly the person died at the scene. Police are now working to identify the casualty so that they can inform the family. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line in Ince Blundell at 9.31am this morning (14 Jan) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. "Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. "Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.
." Merseyrail posted on Twitter at 9.53am to say services had been suspended following the incident. The tweet said: "Due to a person sadly being hit by a train in the Hightown area, services on the Southport-Hunts Cross line are subject to cancellation and amendments." A rail replacement service is currently operating between Southport and Hall Road as train services are suspended.
