Breaking News ! There’s only one name on people’s lips going into day one of the 2021 Grand National meeting. Tiger Roll is back at Aintree, but not taking on the chance at a hat-trick in Saturday’s showpiece, instead tackling a Grade 1 chase for the very first time with the Betway Bowl (2.50). However, don’t expect Tiger to take this – instead CLAN DES OBEAUX looks set to go one better than his second and third in the last two runnings of this race. Trainer Paul Nicholls held back his nine-year-old from Cheltenham last month, and will reap the rewards here at the Grand National. Another Nicholls runner, HITMAN, appears good to kick off what could be a brilliant week for the 11-time champion trainer in the Manifesto Novices' Chase (1.45). The five-year-old has good Grade One form and looks like he could have a lot more to offer. He has finished in the top two in three of his four starts for Nicholls, and an easy win on good ground at Newbury last time out bodes well. There is nowhere else to look but the unbeaten MONMIRAL in the Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle (2.20). Yes, that would be a third straight Nicholls winner but his string look so strong and Monmiral is strong favourite to assert himself as the best of the British juveniles. David Pipe’s Adagio provides tough opposition but an impressive performance at Haydock means the signs point to Nicholls’ star. The Irish could fight back later in the day, with the top two in the betting for the Aintree Hurdle (3.25) trained in the Emerald Isles. Denise Foster’s Abacadabras is in the mix but that in-form combination of Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore look too good with JASON THE MILITANT. A step up in trip looks well suited to the seven-year-old and, despite preferring soft ground, confidence is still high in camp that the Irish success can continue.

.05) looks good for an each-way punt. SOME MAN returned to form with a convincing hunters' chase success at Down Royal last month, and there is huge confidence in the lightly-raced Irish contender. De Bromhead may enjoy more success with MOON OVER GERMANY in the Red Rum Handicap Chase (4.40). The 10-year-old won this race two years ago and looked good despite a mistake at the third fence at Navan last time out. Meanwhile, EILEENDOVER will cap a day for the favourites in the Mares' Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (5.10). With three eye-catching victories from three in her career so far, the four-year-old is the standout option in this race. 1.45: Hitman, 2.20: Monmiral, 2.50: Clan Des Obeaux, 3.25: Jason The Militant, 4.05: Some Man (e/w), 4.40: Moon Over Germany (e/w), 5.10: Eileendover Read More Related Articles Grand National 2021: Double back for another go at Aintree Read More Related Articles Grand National 2021: Storm force on Liverpool's NHS Day at Aintree
