Breaking News ! Clan Des Obeaux ran out an impressive winner of the Betway Bowl Chase on the opening day of the 2021 Randox Grand National Festival at Aintree Racecourse. Paul Nicholls' nine-year-old made it third time lucky in the Grade One contest and completed a quick-fire hat-trick in the opening three races at Aintree for his owners, former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, John Hales and Ged Mason. Following on from victories for Proktektorat and Monmiral in the SSS Super Alloys Manifesto Novices’ Chase and Doom Bar Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle respectively, the owners - who were allowed back on the course - had a day to remember. Clan Des Obeaux, sent off the 5-2 favourite, had been third in the Bowl in 2018 and second when it was last run in 2019. But under Harry Codben, he finally triumphed, scoring by a massive 26 lengths in the end. Mister Fisher had made much of the early running but unseated Nico de Boinville at the 12th fence following a bad mistake. Clan Des Obeaux took over and had his rivals all trying desperately to get close. Clondaw Castle was the only one near but Clan Des Obeaux went well clear to score. Don't miss your ECHO 2021 Grand National Special in shops and online now Clondaw Castle came home 18 lengths ahead of Native River in third. Dual Grand National hero Tiger Roll, a winner at last month's Cheltenham Festival, came home a further 48 lengths back in fourth. The 11-year-old was running in a first Grade One over fences having been taken out of the Aintree showpiece in February as his Gigginstown House Stud owners felt his weight in the big one was two harsh.

. His trainer Nicholls said: "When he's been here before he's had two hard races in the Gold Cup so the best thing we did was not take him there (Cheltenham), it makes such a big difference as it's hard to do both. "Perhaps he was disappointing at Newbury, but he did give 6lb to a good horse. It woke us up though as we realised we were probably getting the tactics wrong. We know to be positive on him now. "Obviously next season the King George will be his number one aim, then back here and I'd like to go for the Denman again. If the ground is decent the Betfair at Haydock is a nice race for him - as is the Charlie Hall." Final 40 runners, riders and reserves for 2021 Grand National He added: "He's actually in the Bet365 Chase at Sandown and he doesn't get a penalty, so that could be interesting. I've always thought that race would suit him. We didn't put him in at Punchestown, but I did say if we could win this we could always supplement."
