Breaking News ! Councillors praised Everton’s plans for a new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock as they approved the historic proposals unanimously. Every member of the 11 person planning committee, which met this morning to consider the designs for the stadium, voted in favour of the proposals in a huge victory for the club. Everton, which has been in discussions with the council’s planning department for years over the plans and which held one of the city’s largest ever consultations over its proposals, was rewarded with enthusiastic support for the plans It sets the club in good stead for what they hope will be the final stage of the planning process when Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Robert Jenrick considers whether to “call in” the application for further scrutiny. Planning committee chair Tricia O’Brien, who has years of town planning experience, said she hoped Mr Jenrick would take the glowing reviews of the committee into account when considering whether the application needed further scrutiny. She said: “I can see that everyone has given [the application] all the care and notice that was needed for a historic and unanimous planning committee decision. “I hope all that is going to be taken into account when this matter is passed to the Secretary of State. “He may or may not decide to call it in but I hope the very extensive debate and the really extensive groundwork done by our own planning officers and by Everton, who have really demonstrated that they are a power for good in our community, will be taken into account.

. He said: “I think there was quoted 1.4m visitors, I’m presuming they’re not all football fans but they will bring life back into that dock area. “I think it’s absolutely imperative and absolutely important that this committee endorses fully and supporters 100% – and when we have to send that report to the Secretary of State, because [council planning officer] Peter’s saying we have to, I hope Peter can encapsulate some of the views, some of the passion, that I know this committee holds for this project. “By saying yes today, we can help Everton take one more step forward to developing their vision for north Liverpool.” Other councillors also praised the plans, with Liberal Party councillor Steve Radford calling them “incredibly impressive”. Councillor Radford, a Tuebrook and Stoneycroft ward councillor said he was particularly about plans for transport to and from the stadium, something he said was a severe issue around the existing stadiums in the city. Committee members questioned club officials extensively about the plans and said club officials provided detailed answers on multiple aspects of the design and delivery of the stadium. Even Green Party leader Tom Crone, who is not a committee member but spoke to raise concerns about the proposals, said he was impressed by much of the club’s proposals, although he called on Everton to make changes to The club’s plans will now go to Mr Jenrick for further consideration in the coming weeks.
