Breaking News ! A Merseyside dad is the star of a new series Filthy House SOS, which helps people who are struggling to keep their homes clean. Richard Pearson, from Formby, was picked to present the Channel 5 show because of his successful cleaning company Poppies Cleaning Service of Wirral. Though the dad-of-two has no experience in television, he has more than 10 years of cleaning experience under his belt, thanks to his Heswall based business. The 44-year-old told the ECHO he was nervous when the production company first contacted him just weeks ago. He said: “Back in July we got a call from a casting agency looking for some male cleaners. “A few Zoom calls later, they offered me a job as a presenter on the programme. “I was pretty nervous about it, and didn’t sleep much that night before the first day on set, but by the end of the day I was flying.” Liverpool man Richard Pearson, helps clean the UK's homes in Filthy House SOS Richard says the homes he helps clean are ‘extreme’ cases of hoarding and uncleanliness. Beyond the obvious cleaning satisfaction, he also loves getting the chance to really change a person's life through cleaning. Richard said: “The series shows people in an absolute fix and they are desperate for help and they can’t get out of the situation themselves. “We come along and spend three days living with them, sleeping over, and turning the house around. “We are cleaning and decluttering but we are also helping people out and trying to understand what has happened and why they’re in this situation.

.” In one of the latest episodeS, Richard helped bring a family closer together, after one woman's own mum refused to visit her dirty home. The lady, called Sam, had ‘cut herself off from the world’ by secluding herself in her own home and restricting visitors. But Richard and his co-host Brennan sorted out the family's issues. Richard said: “It’s uplifting really because you are seeing people at their worst, where they can’t live in their own homes properly anymore and we make sure we sort those problems out. We can have a dramatic effect on people's homes but also on their lives. “I get quite emotional. I absolutely love the job, it’s hard work but I feel very lucky to do what I do.
