Breaking News ! Liverpool got the new Premier League season underway with a hard-fought home win over Leeds United but transfers are still on many fans' minds. With the window still open until October 6th, rumours still abound over the futures of Thiago Alcantara, Gini Wijnaldum, Rhian Brewster and a host of other players. The return of European football is also not too far away with Liverpool learning a little over who their potential Champions League group opponents could be while fans also learnt on Wednesday the Reds have been overtaken by Arsenal as the most popular kit in England this season despite the new Nike deal. So what happens next? Will Liverpool spend more money? Will Gini Wijnaldum stay? Are the Reds targeting any new signings and what about a replacement for the departed Dejan Lovren? ECHO's LFC correspondent Paul Gorst answered all these questions and more. Now that Pot 2 is confirmed, who would you like to see Liverpool draw? (Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Ajax). Well LFC obviously can't play PL teams, but wouldn't want to anyway. I would love them to get Ajax, that would be a great fixture. Shakhtar, less so. They are playing away from their home presently, but that is likely to be a nightmare trip. Dortmund is obviously the big one as far as Klopp is concerned. jmizzleforshizzle: I think it would be a mistake for Liverpool to sell Brewster. I believe that he is the best option off the bench for a classic striker, and a better option than Origi. What are your thoughts? I wouldn't say Brewster is a better option than Origi. He's only had half a season in Championship but you are right, I do think it would be a big mistake to sell Brewster now. Would love to see him at another PL club on loan for the season to really show what he can do in the top flight regularly. LFCRoar: Is Adama Traore a high priority target? He is not. He is Wolves' star man alongside Jimenez and they would demand an eye-watering sum for him. I love him as a player, so creative and quick, he would be perfect for what LFC need right now in that wide forward area, but he is not a target at present, I believe. Must-read Liverpool FC news Liverpool CL opponents become clearer Nike deal suffers as kit sales hit Next transfer move, Brewster latest Forgotten LFC transfer became success IanDoyleEcho: Hi Paul. Seems there has been a lot of interest in your kit story from earlier today, at least from the replies on my Twitter profile. What do you think is actually happening with it? Are sales as bad as people are making out or is it just that demand has outstripped supply? And is the non-UK market the actual big ticket for Nike and Liverpool? I think that Arsenal and Chelsea have sold loads of their own kits as there's feelgood factors at both clubs right now. LFC are still third - above the Manchester clubs - and their new away is the highest selling away shirt, so I don't think it's a big problem by any means. The likes of LeBron James has clearly been used to grow visibility in other areas outside UK, so yes, you're right. jmizzleforshizzle: I believe that Liverpool are done bringing in new players in this transfer window. If that is the case, do you think it would be a stretch for Liverpool to spend big on the likes of Jadon Sancho (if he stays at Dortmund), Erling Haaland or maybe even Mbappe in the next summer transfer window? Klopp was asked about both Sancho and Mbappe last season and said both are too expensive. That was before covid, but at some point, some serious consideration will need to be done around replacing some of the front three. Haaland is not the same type of player as likes of Mane/Salah so maybe not him but Sancho in particular is the interesting one. If he stays at BVB this year. OLSC BiH: Hi Paul! Any truth in the rumours about LFC receiving bids for Oxlade-Chamberlain (Wolves) and Shaqiri (Lazio and Sociedad)? Thanks! I think the Oxlade-Chamberlain rumour is the work of a mischievous Twitter account claiming to work with our mate James Pearce! Shaqiri, though, is an interesting one. He is clearly in the market and LFC will listen to offers. Not sure if those clubs have contacted LFC but they will be open to bids before October 5. Neco 76, Kelleher 62, Wilson 59. Koumetio could play PL minutes this season wearing 89, or van den Berg with 72. Do they players not really care? Does Klopp not care? I can't imagine Klopp cares or has anything to do with that. I assume it is at the discretion of the players. So, for example, Curtis Jones asked for No.17 for this season and was given it. Trent has decided to stick with 66. I think a lot of players were made to choose a number last year because of their involvement in the Aston Villa game in League Cup. jmizzleforshizzle: After watching Werner on Monday, what are your thoughts? Do you think Liverpool missed the boat on him, or was this a smart move by FSG? I actually didn't catch Chelsea on Monday night but I heard they were somewhat fortunate. I wouldn't make a judgement off that one game anyway. Every time I've seen Werner, he looks electric and he can certainly finish. I saw him recently v Spain for Germany and he was excellent. He would have been ideal but it wasn't to be. I was told a few weeks back that no active talks were happening over new deal, but recent reports suggested Klopp has tried to address the issue directly. He was coy when asked about that on Friday but I think the issue was around the length of the contract and salary demands from Wijnaldum's representatives. They perhaps feel their client should see his importance reflected in the terms. Abhi9715: After and if Brewster is sold or loaned out, does that pave way for someone like Sarr to come in? If he's sold then I can't see how LFC wouldn't reinvest. It would be negligent given their lack of centre-forward options. But if he's loaned, I don't necessarily think that will lead to someone coming in. jmizzleforshizzle: Do you think there will be a big push to offload the fringe players like Karius, Phillips, Grujic, Awoniyi, Shaqiri and Wilson. that would free up a significant chunk of wage bill (about £380k a week) as well as bring in some transfer fee money. In the case of Karius, yes, he is a player they would like off the wage bill.

. I was told the club are relaxed about their futures. If offers come, they will listen. If not, they will have a role to play. Under no circumstances are the club open to loan deals, though, is my information. Abhi9715: Are the Bale rumours true? Are the club really keeping an eye on the situation? I think Tottenham have won that particular race, haven't they? How you can listen to our Blood Red Liverpool FC podcasts On Apple Podcasts, click HERE. On Spotify, click HERE. My picks would be David Neres, Moussa Dembele, Houssem Aouar or Gio Reyna I think there's a general profile of player LFC are looking at. Young, versatile and quick. That is why Sarr ticks a lot of boxes. Haven't seen much of Reyna but Aouar would be a quality addition. Did see much of Neres last season either, but he's impressed whenever I have. I do think the 'tier 2' as you put more likely than blockbuster deals. That has rarely - if ever - been LFC's style hlrdinsm: Do you think we will see any more outgoings/ incomings before the window shuts? We will see some movement on the outgoing front. Think a lot depends on offloading fringe players like Grujic, Shaqiri and Wilson in particular. If the Reds can get them off the books then I think we'll see incomings. Maxtabor99: Is it true about a breakthrough for Brewster form Sheffield United Have yet to have that confirmed to me, but it was stressed to that Sheff Utd, in particular, were most determined to sign Brewster on loan recently. Last week, I was told the club were in no rush to make a decision on his future but were open to a sale. You'll read on the ECHO if a breakthrough is made. Emma719: We don’t have to be like Chelsea ( spending ~200m) , but how about 60~70m on some players we desperately need?! That fee would make whoever it the second most expensive player in LFC history. I can't see such an outlay on one single player this summer. Maxtabor99: Hearing mixed fees about Brewster. Is it only Sheffield United in the race or do we have a number of clubs interested Brewster has as many as 10 clubs that I know of who have contacted LFC over him this window. Sheff Utd, I've been told, have been most determined to get a deal done. Neither player is available for loan. I depends on who comes forward with the offers. General asking price is around £20m each. Abhi9715: Is signing a fourth CB still a priority or is Klopp going to give Koumetio a go this season? I think the youngster has been impressive but it's still early for him. I asked Klopp this on Friday and he made it clear that Fabinho is an option as emergency 4th choice. Was told club are planning for season as it is, but not to rule a late move as it's a "fluid and unique" market according to one source. I think it's too early for Koumetio at 17. Coaching staff think he is great, though. One for the future. Lewislfc18: Paul do you think liverpool will sign players this summer n will they make wholesale changes next year If certain players are offloaded then I would expect that to be reinvested, yes. jmizzleforshizzle: With Matip fit again and Gomez seeming to struggle against Leeds and in the pre-season, do you think a spell on the bench for Gomez is due, and would it benefit him like it did for Fabinho? Interesting one. Matip has barely played all year but was first choice at the start of last season. I still think Gomez has enough in the bank to remain in his place but I don't think there's a clear-cut winner between those two when fit. TremendousPotato: One could say that Firmino looks like a man who has lost a bit of his touch. A player who used to score no-look goals is now struggling to sort his feet out in the box. We know he is a confidence player but is it possible that our biggest need right now is to find someone who can succeed him and play a similar role? Any chance that Minamino can play that role in his own style? Minamino plays that role for Japan, I believe. And think it is one that suits his style, given his willingness to press and quality on the ball supplying the other two. Replacing Firmino, long term, is a big ask but he was noticeably off the pace at the weekend. I wouldn't be taking him out the team just yet but he looked rusty. Big season for Minamino, though. wlloyd: How much does the African Cup of Nations effect Liverpools signings, would they go for Sarr if he would have the same problem as Salah and Mane? Will they buy a new winger next season in preparation for AOC? It's been pushed back to 2022, so that is not so much of a problem anymore. jmizzleforshizzle: What is your favorite out of the three kit selections for this season? Probably the home one actually. I'm not a huge fan of the away but the third kit is a classy effort Read More Related Articles Liverpool are organic but Chelsea are manufactured, says former Premier League owner Lewislfc18: If brewster leaves for 25 mil will liverpool bring in someone I would suggest they would have to. It would make no sense whatsoever to offload Brewster and not replace him. I said the same about Lovren but surely they would have to reinvest if Brewster was sold. *Do you play Fantasy Premier League?
