MetiNews.Com - The incident at an Aldi store provoked some strong feelings
Breaking News ! Shoppers are calling for a ban on customers who refuse to wear a face mask in stores after an Aldi worker was "screamed at" by a group after she asked if they were exempt from wearing face masks. The alleged incident took place at the Aldi Peasley Cross store at St Helens Retail Park on Tuesday. A witness posted on a local Facebook group: "The issue was the way they spoke to the poor till attendant who was only doing her job when she politely asked them if they were exempt, all three of them? "Their response was vile, utterly disgusting , all three of them shouting and screaming in her face, calling her a f****** s**g amongst other nasty things, threatening and verbally abusing the staff who came to assist her, it was relentless and totally uncalled for." Hundreds of ECHO readers were outraged by the incident and are calling for others to use "common sense" and have said they feel those who do refuse, without medical reason, should be banned from stores. Carol Attrill said: "The staff at Aldi are lovely, very helpful, welcoming and don't deserve to be treated like that. No matter where you shop you should always wear a mask not only to protect the staff but yourself, surely that's common sense." I have asthma and wear one. I don't like it but it protects people around me . So just put it on and stop moaning." Ian Ball said: "If the supermarkets are imposing these rules about face masks then surely security staff should be asking the question prior to a customer entering without a face mask (on medical grounds) thus preventing shop staff from potentially being abused?" Joanne Marie Day said: "Think these shops need more security bouncers now. Ban the horrors.

Alice Penrith said: "I don't think the shop workers should have to ask about masks, I certainly wouldn't if I worked in the shops. They've been the forgotten key workers throughout all of this, so to ask them to put themselves into a position of possibly being screamed at for asking about a mask is ridiculous. Not fair to ask this of them, you just know most people you ask are gonna get their backs up and start kicking off." Jeanette Miley said: "No one should have to go to work in a pandemic and have to put up with abuse. They are only doing a job, if you don't want to obey their rules shop somewhere else. I for one feel safer wearing and being in a shop with people wearing masks." Sasha Iddon said: "They should just ban everyone from getting in without them. If you're not well enough to wear a mask, you shouldn't be out, simple as that. Let's see how many people are medically exempt then."
