Breaking News ! Shoppers watched in horror as three people "without face masks on" launched a vicious tirade of abuse at a till attendant who simply asked if they were exempt. The alleged incident took place at Aldi's Peasley Cross store at St Helens Retail Park yesterday morning (Tuesday). In a post on a local Facebook group, a witness said: "The issue was the way they spoke to the poor till attendant who was only doing her job when she politely asked them if they were exempt, all three of them? "Their response was vile, utterly disgusting , all three of them shouting and screaming in her face, calling her a f****** s**g amongst other nasty things, threatening and verbally abusing the staff who came to assist her, it was relentless and totally uncalled for." The shopper who witnessed the incident said the Aldi staff responded in a very professional manner and sprung to the defence of the till assistant. They added: "The staff in Aldi were fantastic in their response, they immediately protected their employee, they were professional in their responses and never once retaliated to these three awful human beings. "Needless to say they didn't get their shopping, but I felt so sorry for the lady on the till, nobody deserves to be spoken to in such a manner when they're just doing their job, earning a living." Following the incident, an Aldi spokesperson said: "Face masks are mandatory for all customers, apart from those with medical exceptions. "We are asking customers to respect our colleagues when they are enforcing these rules." It's absolutely disgusting and I'm glad they didn’t get their shopping. No one deserves the vile vitriol some people seem happy to dispense." Meanwhile one person said the three people were putting themselves at unnecessary risk if they are exempt, and therefore should be shielding. The person claimed: "If they are exempt they shouldn't be out of their homes in the first place putting peoples lives at risk. They should get one of their support bubbles to go for them or do an online shop."
