The former Celtic and St Mirren forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old is a “great talent” who would “hit the ground running” at the Stadium of Light. According to the Scottish Sun, the Black Cats have approached Hibernian regarding a permanent move for Nisbet this month. The centre-forward’s 26 appearances this season have yielded an impressive 13 goals and five assists, including a late equaliser against Celtic on Monday night. Hibs boss Jack Ross, formerly of Sunderland, is desperate for his star striker to remain at Easter Road.

“I think the boy is a great talent. He would do really well if he went down there.
“It would be a good move for him because he would hit the ground running in League One and could help them get promoted.
“He is a good striker and I think he could make a good living out of the game and England is the place to do it.”
