Breaking News ! An entire village has been left without internet and phone signal for a whole month - leaving residents unable to even call 999. Residents of Praa Sands, a small coastal village near Porthleven, have been left unconnected to the rest of the world now since February 2, and they say the mishap is "really affecting lives" and potentially putting them at risk. Some residents have had to walk miles from home to get signal in order to raise the issue with their provider and with Cornwall Live. One elderly resident actually had to shout for help as her home flooded in February because she couldn't call anyone, and another, who has cancer, has missed vital calls from doctors and appointments because of it. And it's not the first time it has happened, as they were also left in the same predicament during December of last year. Lauren Tracy, 31 and husband Anthony, 32, say their connection first went down on December 17 and as a result many of their neighbours couldn't even call loved ones at Christmas despite being on their own. Three weeks later it came back on but it was short-lived as less than a month after that they received an alert that said there were issues in the area and the signal has been out again since. And despite repeated attempts to communicate with the provider, Lauren says nobody is any closer to knowing when it might actually be fixed. She said: "I just don't understand why they don’t know what the problem is. It has just been continuous and there has been no communication as to exactly what is wrong and why it is taking to long. “This is at a time where you are so reliant on technology, we have never been at a time where we are more reliant and a communications company can't provide communications.. "It’s just a continuous circle of miscommunications, lies and complete negligence," she continued. "My partner rang up and they ridiculously stated there was no issue and then they had to apologise as he had [the operator] made a mistake and then promised it would be three days, which of course it wasn’t. "It’s really affecting everyone’s lives.

What's started out as an inconvenience has become a real problem for everyone in the village. We can't even call the police or the fire brigade if we needed them. "I've missed messages from my bank, everything these days relies on authentication via text. People are trying to work from home and can't. Children are trying to do online learning and can't get the help and support they need over the phone." Ruth Fromow said: "I am unable to make any phone calls on my work phone so am having to work from local Family Hubs, putting myself and my colleagues at increased risk of COVID as I can’t fully follow the work from home guidelines. Residents in Praa Sands have had issues with their mobile phone signal and internet since December 2020. (Image: Greg Martin/ Cornwall Live) "We also have appalling internet and have been struggling for a year to get broadband installed. So all in all Praa Sands is a poor place to try and work from." Katherine, who lives alone in Praa Sands, says she is also struggling with being unable to communicate with anyone. "I’ve already missed medical appointments due to this and as a cancer patient," she said. There’s also an elderly gentleman who has diabetes here - I need this simple form of communication. "People are suffering from it - pensioners, mental health, livelihood and even lives are at risk. It has to be sorted immediately." Vodafone has been contacted for a comment.
