Breaking News ! Hospitals in Cornwall have gone a month without a coronavirus death, according to the latest figures. NHS England figures out today show that no deaths were reported in the last 24 hours – with the last at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro on July 2. A total of 91 people have died with COVID-19 this year in Cornwall's hospitals, with 65 cases at Treliske and 26 under the care of the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Derriford Hospital in Plymouth saw its last death on June 26 and the Royal Devon and Exeter reported its last death five days before. A total of 280 people with coronavirus have died in Devon and Cornwall. The NHS in Cornwall went a whole month without a death from the disease before the death on July 2. NHS England said today that a further five people in the country had died after testing positive, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,347. A spokesperson added: "Patients were aged between 52 and 86 years old. All had known underlying health conditions. Their families have been informed." . Nineteen cases were detected in the previous seven days, compared to ten in the week before. Cornwall is seeing an average of 2.7 new cases a day. The Government yesterday revealed a new list of 26 towns and cities on a 'watch list' of places where rising coronavirus cases are most at risk of triggering a fresh lockdown. Several parts of the country, such as parts of Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and West Yorkshire have seen a tightening of restrictions. But none of the towns are in the South West. Devon and Cornwall Police’s Deputy Chief Constable Paul Netherton told BBC Breakfast yesterday that the region’s infection rate was still very low. He spoke of cases in their “ones and twos” linked to social gatherings such as pubs and barbecues. The region has avoided any mass outbreaks linked to places of work such as food processing plants.
