Breaking News ! G7 Summit protesters have claimed Prime Minister Boris Johnson "bottled it" and didn’t visit Falmouth yesterday because of their presence. However, a spokesperson for No 10 Downing Street denies that was the case and said that he had a private political meeting in the town.. Mr Johnson visited Newquay airport, Perranporth and Truro, where he announced a £23.6 million fund to transform the city. Resist G7 (RG7) and Kill the Bill protesters have stated that he was also due to visit Falmouth but abandoned parts of his trip as “he wasn't prepared to face the reality of what people in Cornwall really think of him”. Protesters - who are against the bill that will limit rights to protest and who intend to target the G7 Summit of world leaders in Carbis Bay in June - gathered in Church Street in the town but despite a large security operation, there was no sign of the Prime Minister. A spokesperson for RG7 said: “This wasn't a false alarm.

. By 6pm, there was a heavy police presence, including intelligence officers filming and police liaison officers. "This is a massive victory. It's clear that Johnson bottled it. He wasn't prepared to face the reality of what people in Cornwall really think of him. "We are currently facing a massive attack on our right to protest with the Police, Crime, and Sentencing Bill – Johnson's response today shows exactly why the Tory government wants to ban protests.” Although Falmouth wasn’t listed as being part of his public visit, CornwallLive understands the PM had a private meeting in the town. The No 10 spokesperson said: "The PM was in Falmouth yesterday afternoon for a political visit so I’m unable to provide further detail but it’s incorrect to say he didn’t go." The RG7 protester said of their Falmouth gathering: “If this is what we can achieve in an hour, imagine what we can achieve when the G7 comes to Cornwall in June!” More Boris Johnson in Cornwall news Prime Minister Boris Johnson answers Cornwall EU fund concerns before going on cheese tangent Truro's new £23m regeneration fund to pay for six major projects
