Breaking News ! The Royal Navy has explained how it is combating Covid-19 at its Culdrose airbase but refused to say whether there have been any outbreaks there. There are about 3,000 people working at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Culdrose near Helston, including 1,600 Royal Navy personnel, 300 civilians and 800 contractors. However, it is understood the majority of staff are working from home. Those who live at RNAS Culdrose are subject to the same travel restrictions as the general public and are only permitted to leave for a very few limited purposes. Meanwhile, appropriate procedures and management oversight are in place to make sure everyone follows strict guidelines to limit the spread of the virus to personnel, their families and the local community, a spokesman said. He said: "The Armed Forces must be ready to support both the national effort in combating Covid-19 and to ensure that we can continue operations as well as other essential tasks to protect the nation and preserve national security. “The Royal Navy and RNAS Culdrose take the threat of Covid-19 very seriously and are following all current Public Health England and government guidance.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said: "In line with other UK government departments and civil authorities, the MoD will not be publishing a running commentary of case numbers for our personnel. “What is important for the public to know is that we have plenty of resilience measures in place to protect our people while they carry out essential duties, and personnel held at varying degrees of readiness that we can call on should there be absences."
