Breaking News ! A man in his 40s has died after being pulled from the sea near Porthcurno in Cornwall. Emergency services were called to the beach near the Minack Theatre at around 12.40pm yesterday (August 1). Led by the coastguard, a multi-agency rescue was undertaken by lifeguards, lifeboat crews, police and paramedics but unfortunately after being pulled from the water, the man could not be revived. The Devon and Cornwall Police Force Incident Manager, who oversees all incidents across the region, confirmed today: "We received reports at 1.30pm yesterday afternoon of a male in difficulty at Pedn Vounder Beach. "Despite the best efforts of members of the public and lifeguards sadly the man couldn't be revived. "Next of kin have been informed and a file is being prepared for the coroner. "The male was in his 40s." Helicopter near Porthcurno Yesterday, a spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "HM Coastguard is coordinating a multi-agency response following reports of a person in the water near Porthcurno. "The incident was first reported around 12.40pm today (1 August) – Lands End and Penzance Coastguard Rescue Teams with both Sennen Cove RNLI lifeboats and Porthcurno Lifeguards, HM Coastguard helicopter from Newquay, South Western Ambulance Service including Helimed and Devon and Cornwall Police responded. "The person has been recovered from the water and transported to Porthcurno Beach for onward medical care. We have no further information." A spokesperson for Sennen Cove Liefboat Station added: "Sennen Cove RNLI Lifeboats assist with Casualty at Porthcurno. "On Saturday 1 August, at 12.

"On arrival at Pedn Vounder, where the beach was rapidly being covered by the incoming tide, the inshore lifeboat transferred the casualty to the beach at Porthcurno. The all weather lifeboat stood by to provide a winching platform for the helicopter, should that be needed. "Other medical assistance was provided on land by the crew of the air ambulance, and eventually the two lifeboats and the Coastguard helicopter were stood down to return to base. "The lifeboats returned to Sennen Cove, arriving at about 2.40 pm, recovered and made ready for further service." A man staying nearby also reported yesterday: "Coastguard helicopter has made about three or four passes. One landed earlier above Porthcurno Beach. "I’m at Treen Farm Campsite above the next beach, Pednvounder. A coastguard pick-up went past towards the coast with its lights flashing." He added: "The helicopter that kept passing - about six times - was the second one. "The other landed at Porthcurno about half an hour ago and is now about to take off again (I can hear it starting up but can’t see it yet)."
