Breaking News ! A music producer has lost all of his equipment in the devastating fire at the Krowji, Cornwall’s largest creative arts hub. Over 50 firefighters worked through the morning to bring a blaze under control at the site in Redruth, which contains workspaces, meeting rooms and other services across three buildings. A building at the centre of the site, which was formerly Redruth Grammar School, contains offices and workshops, has been destroyed. Krowji hosts a large number of artists and creative businesses, including touring theatre promoters Carn To Cove, Cornwall Museums Partnership, Cornwall Heritage Trust and WildWorks theatre company. Eleven pumps from across mid and west Cornwall fought to put out the fire, which was reported to emergency services at around 6.30 this morning. An aerial ladder platform from Truro was also used to bring the fire under control by mid-morning. Fire crews are expected to be on site in the Blowinghouse Hill area of Redruth all day.

. One of those who has been affected is producer, musician and artist Stuart Blackmore, who has a workshop in the building hit by the blaze. He said: “I’m a tenant with a studio there – I’ve got lots of equipment, three computers, a 12-string Gibson guitar … I think it’s gone up in flames sadly.” Smoke billows out of the fire-hit building at Krowji as firefighters tackle the blaze (Image: Lee Trewhela) Stuart, who is a member of the band Disco Rococo, added: “I had a phone call from another studio tenant saying the fire started in the ceramics department and ripped through.” He said his studio and equipment is “either going to be ruined by the fire or water, because of the amount of water they have had to use to put it out. It’s pretty gutting really.” A Just Giving crowdfunding page to support those who have been affected by the fire has already raised nearly £4,000 of a £10,000 target. You can donate here.
