Breaking News ! Thousands of Cheshire people have signed a petition to close schools again amid fears of a rise in coronavirus infections. The parliamentary petition titled 'Reclose schools and colleges due to increase in COVID-19 cases' argues education settings should be shut due to a surge in coronavirus infections. It adds: "We are seeing cases of students and teachers catching the virus since schools have reopened." In Cheshire, 5,707 residents have backed the campaign which has gathered more than 413,086 signatures in total "to protect teachers and pupils and their families." People living in Halton have backed the petition the most, with 679 residents signing it already. In a letter sent out to parents the school said that two pupils in Year 8 and Year 11 had tested positive for the virus identified through a randomised national testing programme. The two students were both asymptomatic. According to the letter, the school said its 'thoughts and prayers' go to some of the Year 8 families whose child had only just returned to school - only to be track and traced again and forced to be sent home. The school concluded that it was doing all it can to help stop the spread of coronavirus within the school. The petition was set up by a Ellis Rogers and Parliament will consider it for debate as it has now surpassed 100,000 signatures.
