Breaking News ! A man was seen parading down a Widnes street performing a sex act in broad daylight. Gregory Coleman was spotted brazenly engaging in the act just before boarding a train. Police officers were waiting at the next station for the 50-year-old after witnesses raised the alarm. North Cheshire Magistrates' Court heard how Gregory Coleman, of Wilderspool Causeway, Warrington, even carried on performing a sex act when he was placed in a holding cell. Prosecutor Angela Blackmore said that even Coleman's own solicitor conceded his client's behaviour was "bizarre". Ms Blackmore told the court a woman driving a car had spotted Coleman on Birchfield Road in Widnes at 1.05pm on Tuesday, October 20, reports the Liverpool Echo. The witness was "shocked" when she saw what he doing, and realised he appeared to be heading in the direction of a school. She called the police and as she watched him with his back to her in her rear view mirror, it was apparent he was still performing the act as he continued away. Coleman was heading not to the school, but to Widnes station where the woman “lost sight of the male”. Police officers arrested Coleman under caution at Warrington Central, the next station along.

(Image: widnesweeklynews) The defendant, who pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to exposure and breaching a conditional discharge, had previous convictions of excess alcohol in 2010, and possessing cocaine in 2019, for which he received an 18-month conditional discharge and was in breach of at the time of the Birchfield Road incident. John Farnan, defending, said his client "has no great recollection of what happened" but has always accepted it happened. Mr Farnan conceded the behaviour was "bizarre" but said this suggested an underlying mental health issue that "clearly needs to be explored". This was in addition to the credit Coleman should receive for his "prompt guilty pleas", he said. Mr Farnan stressed that although Coleman had appeared to be heading in a general direction that included a school, he said "there's no suggestion there was any intention" of going there, and that Coleman was heading towards the train station. A magistrates panel, chaired by Andrew Brothers, sentenced Coleman to a two-year community order with 20 days of rehabilitation and an order to complete the Horizon sex offender programme. He was also placed on the sex offender register, and ordered to pay a £80 fine and £180 in costs and victim surcharge, totalling £260.
