MetiNews.Com - Staff will be redeployed wherever possible
Breaking News ! Chester's branch of Clintons in the Grosvenor Shopping Centre has closed for good. The greetings card retailer chain was saved from administration by Esquire Retail Limited in December last year but after a review following the Covid-19 pandemic, a number of stores across the country have closed their doors permanently. A Clintons spokesperson told CheshireLive that the lease renewal for the Chester store was 'cost prohibitive' and that the nearest Clintons store would now be Broughton Shopping Park. “I can confirm that the Clintons store in Broughton will be reopening. The health and safety of our staff and customers remains our priority and we are taking all appropriate steps to ensure we remain fully compliant with the Government’s guidelines. "Following the sale of the business to Esquire Retail Limited in December 2019, we are reviewing the leases in our store portfolio.

"In this case, the terms of the lease renewal for our Chester, Newgate Row store were cost prohibitive and we have been forced to take the difficult decision to close the store. Our staff have been informed and we will make every effort to redeploy staff members wherever possible.” Clintons is the latest Chester business to announce its closure following the pandemic, from an already troubled high street. Independent tea room and bakery Mad Hatters this week confirmed it would not be reopening, cocktail bar The Alchemist also announced its closure and footwear retailer Foot Locker, another Grosvenor Shopping Centre store, will also not open its doors again.
