Breaking News ! The M62 was closed in both directions after a male pedestrian was hit by a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV). An air ambulance was among the emergency service response vehicles called to the scene of the crash between junction 7 of the motorway for Rainhill and Junction 8 for Burtonwood. Police said the serious collision, which happened shortly after 4pm on Sunday, involved a male pedestrian and a HGV. The motorway was closed as emergency services attended and paramedics began treating the man at the scene. The westbound carriageway has since been reopened but the eastbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 8 is likely to remain closed for the rest of this evening, police said. People reported being stuck in huge queues on the motorway as traffic officers started to release trapped traffic. A diversion has been put in place and motorists are asked to find alternative routes.
