Breaking News ! Bristol Rovers are poised to complete the signing of Coventry City midfielder Zain Westbrooke, in what would be a considerable transfer coup for the Gas. The 23-year-old is on the verge agreeing a three-year contract at the Mem after winning League One as champions last season, and just over a month after he was included on Coventry's retained list as having agreed a one-year extension. Westbrooke is understood to have been in Bristol on Friday to hold discussions with the club and could even be announced within the next 24 hours. Recruiting a creative central midfielder has been Ben Garner’s top priority this summer after Liam Sercombe was released, and Westbrooke certainly fits the bill plus has an engine and positional awareness to operate as a No8. Talk of possible interest in the player on social media sparked huge excitement from Gasheads on Saturday, who were clearly impressed by the Brentford academy graduate in Rovers’ four meetings with Coventry last season. The deal is not done yet, but the player is believed to be impressed by Rovers’ growing momentum this summer and the project Ben Garner and the club are selling to potential recruits.
. "Ideally I would like a couple more and if we manage to get those in I believe we will be in a really strong position," Garner said. "We’ve got key targets that we’d like to get in, we’re working very hard towards those and if we can get those over the line it would be great."

Garner talks JCH contract
Westbrooke scored four goals in 22 League One starts for Coventry last season, operating at the top or side of Mark Robins' midfield diamond however he lost his place in the XI towards the end of the curtailed campaign. The 23-year-old was on the bench for seven of their final eight league games before lockdown with Robins preferring Callum O'Hare, Jordan Shipley and Jamie Allen in attacking roles. With Shipley having signed a new two-year contract, O'Hare turning his loan move into a permanent switch and the Sky Blues reportedly considering a move for Arsenal's Ben Sheaf, Westbrooke's opportunities next season appear limited. In January, with six months remaining on his contract at the time, Westbrooke was linked with Bristol City, West Brom, Nottingham Forest and Derby County.
