Breaking News ! Changes to a major Stokes Croft development could mean almost 30 new affordable flats. Developer PG acquired The Carriageworks and Westmoreland House in 2017, before getting planning permission for a £26million scheme in 2020. Under the latest proposals, 138 flats will be built at the site, which has been derelict since the 1980s. The plans approved by Bristol City Council last year included eight family houses – three of them with four bedrooms and five with three bedrooms. But PG has submitted a new planning application which replaces those houses with an L-shaped block of 28 affordable-housing flats at the Westmoreland House site. If the changes are green-lit, the final 138-flat development would include 95 one-bed flats, 35 two-bed flats and eight three-bed flats. Of those, 38 flats would be affordable. Preliminary work has started at the Carriageworks and Westmoreland House site (Image: CAG) The plans also include a plaza, as well as shopping and office space. Preliminary work is already underway. The Carriageworks Action Group (CAG) – an association of local people – posted about the affordable housing on its website. The group commented: “More affordable units will help meet local housing needs and is something that CAG and the community have been pushing for, for a long time.
. They will be shared ownership and capped at 80 per cent of market value. Most of the L-shaped block will be five storeys high, though a section will be four storeys.
“The permissioned scheme included a pocket park in front of the houses and gardens to the rear,” CAG wrote. “The pocket garden has been replaced by a sunken courtyard with planting and planting beds close to the parking.” CAG will be holding a community Zoom meeting from 7pm to 8pm on Thursday (February 25). “We’ve invited PG to present their proposals after which there will be a chance for questions,” the group added. “If you would like to take part in the meeting please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to request the Zoom link. “If you have questions it will help us manage the meeting if you can submit them in advance using the same email address.”
