Breaking News ! Jamie Paterson may have played his last game for Bristol City with manager Nigel Pearson confirming the popular playmaker is due to have surgery on a groin injury which will rule him out for the rest of the season. Paterson is out of contract in the summer and, bar eight minutes as a substitute against Middlesbrough with Pearson in the Riverside stands, has been denied the opportunity of impressing the new manager. It's been an injury-ravaged second-half to the season for the former Nottingham Forest and Coventry City midfielder, having become an influential regular under Dean Holden. Pearson has admitted he's been part of contract discussions in terms of who to offer deals to this summer and, given he turns 30 in December and is among the higher earners in the squad, Paterson may not possess the necessary value in what are difficult financial times. As Pearson admitted, in talking generally about transfers and the likely financial outlook for the market this summer: "I can't, for instance, see huge amounts of money being spent on players. And even players who are out of contract could find themselves in a pretty different scenario to what they would normally be." Paterson joins fellow out-of-contract midfielder Liam Walsh in having been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, with further doubts over whether O'Dowda will play again this term plus striker Chris Martin and forward Andi Weimann, who is recovering from an ACL injury.

Dasilva returned to training with the rest of the squad last month and is edging closer to a return with Pearson hoping to trial him in an Under-23 fixture. City play Nottingham Forest at the Optima Stadium in Weston on Tuesday. "He's training fully now with the squad and hopefully we can get him involved in an Under-23 game at some stage," Pearson said. "He's moving in the right direction."
