Breaking News ! Scaffolding has appeared inside Bristol Temple Meads as progress is made on a major project to renovate the roof. The restoration of the Victorian roof is part of a £24m investment to improve the city's main railway station, and should be complete by 2023. Construction materials and machinery appeared in December on a fenced-off scrap of land near Glass Wharf, next to the new bike racks. A Network Rail spokesperson said this area is being used as a "temporary compound to support the Temple Meads roof refurbishment scaffolding installation". It is expected to be in use until the end of February. The railway company shared a video on Twitter on Thursday (January 21), showing scaffolding next to the platforms inside the station. (Image: Network Rail) Its website states: "We have been installing foundations and are erecting scaffolding towers, with the installation to continue on Saturday nights during 2021. "Once complete, these towers will support a huge safety screen that will protect staff and passengers while the work is carried out overhead. The work site will also be fully wrapped to prevent dust and other materials from escaping into the station below. "The renovation involves re-glazing and extensive metal and woodwork repairs on the main train shed roof, as well as further work on roofing over Bonaparte’s Alley.

. Repairs to the platform canopies and in the forecourt are also on contractors' to-do list, as well as fresh paintwork, with the entire project due for completion in 2023. Timeline of works Installation of new track at the Kingsland Road depot and relaying of track for Platform 13 is also listed on the project timeline for "early 2021". Services to and from London Paddington will be diverted via Bristol Parkway, not calling at Bath Spa or Chippenham, and services between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour will also be affected. Network Rail announced in June that it had assigned Taziker as the primary contractor for the works, with 75 full-time workers expected on site at the peak of the project.
