Breaking News ! There's been another jump in the number of coronavirus patients being cared for in Bristol's hospitals, as 64 people are now being cared for on ventilators. According to the latest Government figures, there's 430 Covid inpatients in our city's hospitals - the highest since the pandemic first hit. This compares to 404 confirmed on January 15, when council chief said the local NHS was under 'extreme pressure'. Seven more Covid deaths were also recorded in Bristol on Thursday. This brings our city's total number of fatalities to 395, where the virus was mentioned on death certificate. And a further 295 people tested positive for Covid in Bristol, as cases remain high.

UK cases A further 1,290 people have died of Covid-19 in the UK. The figure takes the total deaths within 28 days of a positive test to 94,580. The case tally continues to fall however, with today's 37,892 positive tests significantly lower than last Thursday's 48,682 and the 52,618 the week before.
