Breaking News ! Well Paul, not the start you would have wanted today. No, of course not. It was a scrappy game, it wasn’t the best game I’ve watched but as it went one I would have settled for a point. Disappointed to have conceded a goal from a set piece, so not what I wanted from today, but it was my first look at them. We’ve got some work to do and I’m looking forward to Tuesday. It had the look of a game that could go a long time without seeing a goal. Absolutely. I’ve got some direction I’d like to give the players, but of course when the games come thick and fast you don’t really get that opportunity. We’ve got to do it in small steps, but they gave a lot. They were very robust and they put themselves about, and that’s the first thing you ask of any player. I was disappointed for everybody that we didn’t keep a clean sheet and give ourselves a platform to move on. Yeah, there was no major clever idea in there other than I was trying to get best value for the players. It was a tweak and we did pick up a little bit of momentum from it, so I was disappointed we conceded that goal because the second half was even Stevens. The frustration is that after you conceded the goal, the players step it up and you created two good opportunities. It’s just a shame it happened so late. We had two good chances, Sam’s header in particular. That’s no extra effort, that’s just human nature. As soon as you’ve got nothing to lose maybe you free yourself up a bit. We’ve got to find a way of doing that when it’s 0-0. As you say, when there’s so many matches it’s difficult to do a lot in the next few weeks and months. What are the things you’ve seen there that you’re going to have to work on? Forgive me, I’ll keep that to myself.

In terms of moving forwards, the defensive base was there today. It was that final third where you needed more creativity at times. We are all one team together. We attack from the back and defend from the front. It’s one unit, so let’s not divide them up, they have to all defend. We concede a goal when we’re back defending a free kick. We all have to do that job then. The forwards need the defenders to provide a platform for them. The better they do at the back, the more the forwards can edge towards goal. It’ll be a team effort. I’m hoping we can share the energy and responsibility across the team. It’s not them and us, it’s one team and I expect in time for that to become apparent, but it’s early days. Paul, can you give us an insight to the message at full time? I thanked them for their effort because they put themselves about and they tried very hard and they were robust and got stuck in. Clearly, we’ve got to be streetwise when it comes to those set piece moments, but generally it’s on to the next. I’ve been here 24 hours and I was still trying to remember their names when I was giving the team talk. It was a difficult day, I felt very disappointed for them. Although it wasn’t a lovely game of football, although we didn’t play as one day I would hope, I still wanted to come away with a point today.
