MetiNews.Com - He failed a breath test and had no driving licence
Breaking News ! A drink-driver with no licence and no insurance was caught almost 200 miles from home despite the lockdown travel ban. Police said there was "no excuse" for the man's actions after he journeyed from Wolverhampton to the fishing town of Brixham in Torbay, Devon. He was stopped with a passenger yesterday (Wednesday, January 13) after police noticed his car was registered to an address in Wolverhampton. Devon and Cornwall Police said as they began to issue a fine to the pair for flouting the coronavirus rules, they noticed the smell of alcohol, Devon Live reports. The driver failed a breath test and now faces a potential ban from driving. If he took the most direct route from Wolverhampton into Devon, he would have travelled the length of the M5, crossing through Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Bristol and Somerset. This is despite the current national lockdown and the stay home rule, with travel only permitted for very particular reasons. Devon and Cornwall Police's No Excuses road safety team posted about the breach via their Twitter account.
. "Two men on board both with no excuse to be so far from home. Whilst being issued Covid tickets the smell of alcohol became apparent. "Driver now in custody facing a ban." Officers later revealed that the man had been charged with a string of other offences, after it emerged that he had no valid licence or insurance. A further tweet from police read: "Offender fingerprinted at custody. "False details given so now being charged with additional offences of no licence, no insurance and obstructing police. "Car also seized."
