Breaking News ! Hello and welcome to Thursday's live blog! That was a lot of fun, wasn't it? Another win in the bag for Dean Holden and a place in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Aston Villa but, perhaps most of all, what an exhilarating display of attacking football. Paul Simpson mentioned it in the build-up to the game that Holden and his coaching staff want open and fluid offensive football and Northampton felt the force of that at Ashton Gate, on the end of a 4-0 hiding. Kasey Palmer and Antoine Semenyo were outstanding, Adam Nagy and Alfie Mawson assured and, based on the early evidence, Chris Martin and Steven Sessegnon look very shrewd acquisitions already. And while it only was League One opposition - although you can only beat what's in front of you - there was a sizeable "but" with the shoulder injury sustained by Tomas Kalas. Holden admitted after the game he didn't know the extent of the damage as the Czech was taken off inside the opening five minutes but assistant head coach Keith Downing is due to speak later this afternoon to hopefully we'll have greater clarity on the situation. We'll be bringing you updates from that press conference plus any other Robins news across the day, so keep an eye on below for updatesDean Holden's reactionEvery word from City head coach’s post-match press conference as he discussed the performance, individuals stepping up, selection headaches for Sunday, Kalas and Dasilva’s injuries and more.Read the full story HEREBristol City assistant head coach Paul Simpson and Bristol City head coach Dean Holden (Image: Rogan/JMP)Diedhiou won't be joining DijonAccording to Get French Football News who reported last night that talks have broken down between the City striker and the Ligue 1 club.A couple of points to this: Dijon were very much interested in signing the Senegalese, who has one year remaining on his deal so is in a vulnerable position from City’s point of view. However, and crucially, as we reported earlier this week NO bid has been received for the striker, not from Dijon, nor anyone else. There may well be interest but that’s it, at present. So any “talks” that have taken place were informal and between representatives - which, unfortunately, does take place more than you’d like to imagine. The situation from City’s perspective hasn’t changed since last week - there is a contract offer on the table for Diedhiou, a very good one at that, and it’s up to him if he wants to stay at Ashton Gate or seek opportunities elsewhere.Diedhiou was an unused substitute last night as City beat Northampton but will be in contention to start against Stoke on Sunday.Of course, as the days go by and that international transfer deadline of October 5 looms larger, pressure increases - because after that date and then the domestic window shutting on the 16th, Diedhiou will likely just wait until January and then could potentially sign a pre-contract agreement elsewhere and leave for nothing - but there’s not really much else City can do right now.Famara Diedhiou in action for Bristol CityMatch highlightsIn case you missed it, or just want to rewatch the best bits ...Win a City home shirtOur competition is still running to win a Bristol City home kit.
