Benteke 'could leave Palace for free' amid West Brom interest Christian Benteke, the Crystal Palace striker who is of interest to West Brom this month, is reportedly hoping to be released after the closure of the transfer window so that he may seek his next challenge as a free agent. Belgian international forward Benteke is out of contract in the summer - he is one of a host of soon to be free agents who will depart Selhurst Park, alongside the likes of Andros Townsend and Patrick Van Aanholt - and a change of environment will likely be on the cards at some stage in the next six months. Palace have already signed forward Jean Philippe-Mateta on an 18-month loan deal and with Chelsea loanee Michy Batshuayi and Jordan Ayew also options for Roy Hodgson, it’s not out of the question that Benteke might leave in the next week before the window shuts. Albion, of course, are desperate to add to their squad in that time so that they can give themselves their best possible chance of remaining in the Premier League; Sam Allardyce, who worked with Benteke at Palace, wants at least three additions before the deadline including a target man, and Benteke would fit the bill.
