Breaking News ! Business owners in Moseley have been left counting the cost following a spate of vandalism. Yobs reportedly smashed the window of an estate agent in the village centre in October and a nearby cafe also suffered damage in December. It is understood a hairdressing salon and Moseley Haven spa then also had their windows smashed at the beginning of January. On Tuesday (Jan 12), thugs smashed an office window and a car belonging to Nicholas George Residential Sales and Lettings, causing damage. Moseley was voted as the best place to live in the country in 2017 with the row of vibrant shops, bars, cafes and restaurants on Alcester Road an attractive feature. Alison Knowles, manageress of Moseley Haven, had her front windows smashed on January 1 or 2. She said: “They used a brick and hit it against the window glass a couple of times. It shattered the glass and made fracture points. Smashed windows at Moseley Haven Spa, in Moseley “It also fractured the wooden frame which is tricky to fix because it’s in an old building and there’s wet weather. “Moseley is less retail and more cafes, restaurants and salons and it does make it more inviting to vandalism. “I would like to say to the people who have done this have some compassion for business owners. “It’s a difficult time for us anyway and we now have to fork out for repairs.

.” Her mother, community activist and candidate for MP, Izzy Knowles said : "It’s an extra needless cost that they have to find. “Most of them are still paying their rent even though they are closed. “It’s scary as people think there’s lots of crime. In normal times we want people to come into the village.” Kathy Lee-Cole said on the Everything Moseley Facebook site: “What on earth is going on in Moseley right now, that businesses that are a core part of our neighbourhood are being attacked in this way?” Michelle Wright said: "This seems to be happening a lot in Moseley just lately. Its disgusting ! Pure mindless vandalism !" West Midlands Police said: “We were called to reports of damage caused to the front of Moseley Haven, St Mary’s Row, Moseley, sometime between 5pm on 31 December and 10am on 4 January.
