Villa told Cantwell transfer 'doesn't make sense' Villa have been linked with Norwich City attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell ahead of the summer transfer window. Villa want to add quality options to Smith’s squad ahead of next season and reinforcements in attacking areas are a priority. The absence of Jack Grealish through injury has hit Villa hard creatively while there is also need for new signings after Trezeguet was ruled out until next season having had surgery on a serious knee injury. Lange will head up Villa’s transfer search along with head of recruitment Rob Mackenzie before reporting back to Smith and Cantwell is reported to be a player of interest. The creative midfielder has played a vital role in Norwich’s Championship title-winning campaign alongside Emi Buendia - another player said to be on Villa’s radar. Cantwell doesn’t boast the stunning goal and assist returns of Buendia, who was recently named as the Championship’s player of the season. But the England under-21 international has still been directly involved in 11 goals this term after recovering from a couple of niggling injuries during the first half of the season.
