MetiNews.Com - Aston Villa news: Alex Bruce has issued his verdict on the job Dean Smith has done at Villa park but blasted Watford's owners for getting rid of manager Nigel Pearson
Breaking News ! Pundit Alex Bruce thinks Aston Villa are right to stick with Dean Smith and has blasted relegated Watford for sacking Nigel Pearson. Villa secured their Premier League status for another season last weekend with a 1-1 draw at West Ham United while Watford needed to better the result at the London Stadium when they played Arsenal. They went down 3-2 in North London under caretaker Hayden Mullins, who was installed after Pearson was sacked following a 3-1 defeat to West Ham on July 17. Pearson's departure came with Watford's survival still in their own hands and back-to-back wins prior to the West Ham reverse had them six points clear of the relegation zone. His assessment of Watford is a damning one, though. "I don't think Dean Smith has done anything wrong to deserve the sack," Bruce said in conversation with Football Insider. "He got them promoted and he's done well keeping them in the league. To make changes when you’re in the midst of it, I don’t think Dean Smith had ever thought it would be an easy season. "It's been a roller-coaster ride, so the fact he has kept them up on the back of getting them promoted, you’d have to say he’s done a good job. "I think you can see what happens when you're sacking manager and chopping and changing all the time, Watford have been a prime example. "The way the owners have behaved, sacking Nigel Pearson, they've been an absolute disgrace and if you asked me deserved everything they got."
