MetiNews.Com - Greene King confirmed it had ended its lease at The S'oak on Bristol Road, in Selly Oak
Breaking News ! A popular pub will not reopen its doors when lockdown restrictions are eased next week. The S'oak on Bristol Road, in Selly Oak, has been a firm favourite for scores of revellers over the years. But pub retailer and brewer Greene King confirmed it is ending its licence after discussions with the landlord. Unconfirmed reports suggested the boozer could be converted into student accommodation, according to The Tab. Last October, Greene King said it would close 79 pubs and cut 800 jobs after the 10pm curfew caused a slump in trade - but did not name which sites were to shut. It is understood that staff are now entering a consultation period for redundancy up to April 25.
. In a statement, Greene King said: “We can confirm that after discussions with our landlord, we are ending our lease at the S’Oak, and would like to thank all our teams and customers both past and present.
“This is a difficult time and we’re doing all we can to support our team at the moment. "We are beginning a consultation with those affected and will be working hard to try to find them roles wherever possible at any of our nearby pubs.” Pub beer gardens are due to reopen after lockdown on Monday, April 12, with establishments allowing punters to drink inside from May 17. Nearby pub The Selly Oak Pear has applied for a licence to run a bar from a new beer garden it wants to create for punters to enjoy after lockdown.
