Breaking News ! The mother of a man accused of murder has pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice by making a false witness statement to police. Lynda Bennett, whose son Ian Bennett is accused of murdering 38-year-old Kerry Woolley, was granted conditional bail after a hearing at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday. Mother-of-two Ms Woolley was found dead at her flat off Warwick Road in Solihull, West Midlands, on July 12, with fatal injuries to her neck. Lynda Bennett, who also denies assisting an offender, had been due to stand trial alongside her son on January 11 next year but the hearing has been put back until April. Ian Bennett, 37, of Moordown Avenue, Solihull, has yet to enter a plea to a charge of murder.

Adjourning the case after submissions from counsel, the Recorder of Birmingham, Judge Melbourne Inman QC, said: "I shall fix this trial for April 6 next year. "We will have a pre-trial review on March 30 that the defendants do not need to attend unless they wish to. "I remand Mr Bennett in custody. Mrs Bennett, you will remain on bail on the same terms."
