Douglas was linked with a summer return to City, whom he left without playing a single minute of football because of work permit issues following his arrival from Brazilain side Vasco da Gama in 2017. Website Eurosport is reporting that City are keeping an eye on Douglas and 'the possibility' of returning the player to the Etihad Stadium.

He has begun this season in a similar vein, playing all-but-three minutes of Villa's Premier League season so far turning in some fine performances. Douglas was quizzed on talk of a return to Pep Guardiola's City by Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte last month. "About Man City, I've been doing my job at Villa, I don't really have conversations with City or Guardiola," he said. "But it's a job that went together, I had help from City with Villa to be able to play in the Premier League. "It's a very good thing to be able to play there without any difficulty."
