Breaking News ! A driver has been arrested for drug driving after they decided to take a shortcut through a roadworks closure on the M5. The motorist was stopped by West Mercia Police officers in the early hours of Sunday morning (November 22) after driving through the roadworks at J5 near Droitwich. Officers noticed a 'strong smell' of cannabis and soon confirmed the driver of the Ford Fiesta had no insurance. They then made an arrest for drug driving and having no insurance after the driver failed a drugs test. A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said on Twitter: "Driver of this vehicle decided to drive through a motorway roadworks closure at J5 M5.
." In other police news, West Mercia Police has said a man is in a stable condition after 'receiving stab wounds' in Evesham yesterday. Officers were called to an address in Woodlands after receiving a report of a concern for safety on Thursday afternoon (November 19). On arrival, they found a 44-year-old man with stab wounds who was quickly rushed to hospital via air ambulance. Detective Inspector Tony Garner said the incident poses no risk to the wider public but urged anyone with information to get in touch.
