Birmingham news Keinan Davis makes Aston Villa request as contract talks continue MetiNews.Com
MetiNews.Com - Aston Villa transfer news - The rookie striker has been at Villa for five years after being taken in from non-league Biggleswade Town aged 17
Breaking News ! Young striker Keinan Davis wants more game time at Aston Villa this season, with Dean Smith poised to keep the 22-year-old around as back-up. The forward endured an up-and-down 2019/20 after starting it with a bang in the 6-1 win over Crewe Alexandra 13 months ago. Davis was the designated cup striker and, initially, played second-fiddle to the likes of Wesley and Jonathan Kodjia. A string of eye-catching impact performances followed and, prior to sustaining a severe hamstring injury last October, was on the cusp of nudging out Villa's £22 million Brazilian for a starting place in the Premier League. That injury ruled Davis out for three months and, just days after returning, he tweaked his hamstring once again in an under-23s game. Davis, though, looked good on his return once more from off the bench prior to lockdown. Following decent showings, head coach Dean Smith chose Davis as his preferred striker for Project Restart - only for the youngster to miss a couple of chances against Sheffield United before eventually losing his starting place to Mbwana Ally Samatta. Davis is without a league goal since September 2017 but, on Tuesday night, he's one from one again after slotting home against Burton Albion for his first goal in over a year. The former Biggleswade Town man, according to reports, has been offered a new three-year contract - such is the faith Smith and Richard O'Kelly have in him. The management duo described him as a "bully in training" previously while the likes of Jack Grealish and Tyrone Mings rate him highly. There's a long queue of Championship clubs willing to take Davis, including Preston, but the striker looks set to stay and wants to fight for his place - just like he did last year - up against star man Ollie Watkins. "I'm looking forward to it a lot," Davis said of the upcoming campaign. "Hopefully I'll have more involvement than last year. I got good experience towards the end of the season. "Obviously, it's been a while since I've been on the scoresheet. I feel good, I've had a good pre-season and feel fit.
. We've made him feel comfortable. You can tell with the goal (vs Burton), he's a good player who's fitted in well within in the team."
Following a rare Davis goal against Burton, here's how Villa fans reacted: Steve Wonfor: When people play to his strengths he's a great player, only need to look at Benteke who's been poor since he left Villa! Eddie Boyle: Could do his confidence good. He's signing a new 3-year contract (according to reports) so looks like we keeping him. Send him out on loan this season in the Championship and see how he gets on. Nick Ng: All he needs now is a little more confidence in front of goal. He may well be developed into another Dalian Atkinson. Graham Davis: Took his goal well, he’s still young and can learn a lot off Watkins. Lee Carter: Kid will be fine. Strong lad, holds ball up, took his goal well. Let’s see if he get his chance, could surprise a few people. Andy Grey: He's not crap... strong on the ball just lacks in confidence. Maybe this will get him going?
