Breaking News ! Temperature checks, compulsory masks and contactless payments - this is what visitors to Alton Towers can expect when the theme park reopens this weekend. Adrenaline junkies will be able to pay their first visit to the Staffordshire-based theme park from Saturday, July 4, after coronavirus sparked a three-month closure. Pictures taken from the park ahead of the long-awaited reopening, show workers in PPE taking temperatures of guests and visitors wearing masks while on rides. Social distancing measures will be in place from July 4, with the park limiting capacity and spacing out queue lines. Alton Towers prepares to reopen on Saturday 4th July. View gallery Anyone wanting to visit will need to pre-book and masks will also be compulsory for anyone over the age of six on certain rides, including Nemesis, Galactica, Oblivion, The Smiler, Wicker Man, Rita, TH13TEEN and Runaway Mine Train. At the park entrance, temperature checks will be carried out with a non-touch thermometer. Anyone with a temperature over 37.8 degrees will not be allowed entry. The Alton Towers website reads: "In line with the latest Government guidance, we are delighted to confirm that Alton Towers Resort will reopen on the 4 July 2020. We can’t wait to welcome you back. General views at Alton Towers Resort as it prepares to reopen on Saturday, July 4 (PA) "This follows the successful opening of the Alton Towers Gardens earlier this month, and is in line with the UK Government guidance on the reopening of open-air attractions.  "From 4 July, the rest of the theme park will reopen, including the majority of our rides and outdoor attractions, although some indoor facilities must remain closed for now.  We will reopen with significantly reduced numbers and a range of hygiene and safety measures to protect you and our employees. "All guests must bring a suitable mask with them when they visit our attraction. Only securely fitted face masks should be worn on rides for safety reasons and we would recommend removing face masks on water rides in case they get wet.
