Breaking News ! Jack Grealish has given his reaction to a fine day for the Aston Vlla captain yesterday. It began with a new five-year contract for the 25 year-old and ended with his first goal of the season as Dean Smith 's side ran out 3-1 winners at Burton Albion in the second round of the Carabao Cup. The Villa skipper has committed his future to his boyhood club, ending speculation about a move away from Villa Park. Manchester United were heavily linked with Grealish but never formalised their interest while there was talk that Man City were keen too. In the end Grealish has decided the project underway in B6 under Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens was too good to leave and speaking to Sky Sports last night he outlined just how the decision to stay at Villa was made. Here's every word in full from the England international... How was the Burton game? "It's been a good day for myself and a good few weeks and topped of by the game. "It was a tough game out there and credit to Burton, they made us work for it but we are delighted to get through and personally for me to get off the mark for the season. "It was tough, like they all are, at the start of every season. Last year it took me about eight or nine goals to get my first game so I'm happy this season it's just took the first. "It's a team game and I'm just happy the boys got through to the next round." Sign up to our Jack Grealish new contract newsletter special Why should you sign up? "I'm not just saying this because it's what people want to hear, but he's been brilliant since he walked through the door. "As a person off the pitch, his work ethic on the training ground and most of all his talent. "He's been brilliant since he came in, sometimes I think if you buy a striker for a lot of money and a League below there will be questions but I can't give him enough credit. "He's been brilliant since he walked through the door." When did you decide to stay at Villa? "Yesterday. "I decided that I wanted to stay after the chat - saying that I've always wanted to stay, it is Villa. "It's a club that is close to em and my family and I think everyone knows that. "But there's obviously been speculation all through the summer but it was actually on Saturday when I had a FaceTime call with the owner. "He said what his ambitions are for the season and it really persuaded me if anything. "I also spoke to the manager and Christian Purslow who have been a breath if fresh air since they've come in - both of them. "And then yeah it was only yesterday when talks got underway and it was done within 24 hours. "So it was quite an easy one which is obviously good for myself and I was delighted to sign it and to get the season underway." "I had a good season last season and there was interest in myself from other clubs. "I just truly believe everything happens for a reason and I just happened to sign a new contract at Villa. "I've got a big smile on my face." What did the owners say? "Last season it probably didn't go the way we planned although we stayed in the Premier League. "I think everyone involved with the club wanted to finish higher but some of the stuff the owners, chief executive and manager have said to me about their ambitions for next season... "I'm not going to come out here and say everything because I think it's something you keep in-house. "But I think as you probably know it really persuaded me to get this over and done with."
