Breaking News ! Prime Minister Boris Johnson was questioned by MPs at a Commons Committee today, and gave a series of updates about the battle against coronavirus. Speaking to the House of Commons Liaison Committee, he said figures showing how many people have been vaccinated in each region will be published this week - and some parts of the country are doing much better than others. He said: "We want to be as transparent as we possibly can about how many we are vaccinating." There have been 2.8m jabs vaccinations so far, involving 2.4m people (suggesting some people have already been vaccinated twice), he said. And he repeated his pledge to vaccinate 15 million people by February 15. Mr Johnson said: "Some of the figures are very interesting. There are parts of the country where they have done incredibly well". Releasing some new figures, he said in the North East and Yorkshire, more than 50% of over-80s had been vaccinated - but progress was "less good in some other parts of the country", he said. The Liaison Committee includes the chairs of other Commons Committees, usually seen as the most senior backbench MPs in the House of Commons. But there do not appear to be plans to publish local figures, only regional figures. More local pharmacists will be given the vaccine to administer, but not yet.

. The test and trace system has conducted 56 million tests so far, the most in Europe, Mr Johnson told the Liaison Committee The Prime Minister said the amount of food provided to some parents with children eligible for free school meals was "a scandal and a disgrace". He said the firms providing the food "have been hauled over the coals ... they have apologised. They have reimbursed the schools and pledged not to do it again." Mr Johnson also said schools had always been free to provide parents with vouchers, which they could spend themselves, and three quarters of schools did this. Others had chosen to provide parents with food boxes instead. The Prime Minister declined to say whether the Government would go ahead with planned changes to Universal Credit in April. It announced in April 2020 that the benefit would be temporarily increased by £1,000 for one year, and critics say this means Universal Credit will be "cut" in April 2021. He said: "I think most people in this country would rather see a focus on jobs and a growth in wages, than focusing on welfare, but clearly we have to keep all these things under review." He appeared lost for words when asked by MP Catherine McKinnell whether he still believed US President Donald Trump was as deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize as President Barack Obama, who was awarded the prize in 2009. Instead of answering directly, Mr Johnson said: "I am in favour of the prime minister of the UK having the best possible relationship with the president of the United States and I had an excellent conversation very recently with president-elect Joe Biden."
