The former Villa and Arsenal man told the Daily Star: “Villa have done some good business. They’ve done well to keep Jack Grealish. Fair play to him for signing his contract. “And Emiliano Martinez is a great signing because £20m for a keeper this day and age is cheap and he was outstanding for Arsenal last season.”

Martinez told Villa TV the offer of regular football meant he jumped at the opportunity to sign. "I've been at Arsenal 10, 11 years, fighting for my spot," he said. "When I won those two trophies, the FA Cup and the Community Shield, I spoke to my family and said it's time to have a new challenge. "When Aston Villa gave me the opportunity to fight for the spot and play loads of Premier League games, that's why I decided to come here. I trust the process and the manager's playing style. I truly believe we can do a good season at Villa."
