Breaking News ! Prime Minister will announce on Monday that that Christmas as we know it is cancelled, The Mirror reports. In the public address tomorrow (November 23), Boris Johnson will warn that " “This will not be a normal festive period.” It means that although  the England wide lockdown is due to officially end in December - bars, pubs and shops will remain closed  in Covid hot spots. According to The Mirror, the PM will replace the lockdown in December with a much tougher three-tier system  - stricter than the previous ones. It is not yet known just how many people of different households will be allowed to socialise together over Christmas. But more details will come from Mr Johnson's statement to Parliament and later in his TV address. Earlier this week, Dr Susan Hopkins, a Public Health England director advising the Government’s coronavirus response, said the Government may have to think about ‘strengthening’ tiers ‘in order to get us through the winter months’. People living in high infection areas (the top tier) will still  feel like they are living in lockdown. It means: It is likely people will not be able to mix indoors or outdoors and bars, cafés, restaurants stay closed. There will be no trips to hotels and B&Bs, which will only cater for business clients on essential work. Schools, food shops, pharmacies, and vets will stay open. But hairdressers, cinemas and gyms will stay closed For those in Tier 1  - the rule-of-six limit on the number of people meeting up – will be much stricter as it did little to halt the spread of the virus.

. "Without regional restrictions it could quickly run out of control before vaccines and mass testing have had an effect. “That would put in jeopardy the progress the country has made and once again risk intolerable pressure on the NHS.” Which area goes into which tier will be announced on Thursday (November 26).  Downing Street added: “The plan will also set out how people will be able to see their loved ones at Christmas, despite ministers being clear this will not be a normal festive period.” Public Health England medical director Prof Steve Powis said: “We will not be going back to normal.” Fellow SAGE member Prof John Edmunds added: “We will have to moderate Christmas.” Will Birmingham be in the top tier post lockdown? On Saturday ( November 21) , the UK Covid death toll rose by 391 - with 72 fatalities occurring in Birmingham and the Midlands. The disease is still spreading in every region of England except the North West and Yorkshire. The R rate currently stands at 1 to 1.1 – meaning each infected person is passing the virus on to at least one other. It must be brought down to under 1 to bring the deadly bug under control. Latest figures to show the number of deaths of patients with Covid-19 by region are as follows: East of England - 18 London - 20 Midlands - 72   North East & Yorkshire - 84 North West - 75         South East - 18 South West - 29
