Aitor Karanka has repeatedly spoken of his desire to add options up front, with Lukas Jutkiewicz the only senior striker. Hogan has been a front-runner for that for most of the transfer window having had a loan spell at Blues last season. He is entering the final year of his contract at Villa Park and with Dean Smith having lavished £33million on Ollie Watkins, £22m on Wesley and £8m on Mbwana Samatta in little more than 12 months.
