Breaking News ! Scammers are trying to exploit the Covid-19 vaccine by sending fake messages supposedly from the NHS, Solihull residents are warned. The hoax texts claim that the receiver is now eligible for their jab and asks them to follow a link to a website which has been designed to look like an official health service page. At this point victims are asked to input bank details and other personal information to verify their identity. Healthwatch Solihull, an independent champion for patients, has urged the public to watch out for the bogus messages - yet another attempt by fraudsters to capitalise on the crisis. "NHS England would never require payment or ask you to provide personal details by responding to a text." The health service is currently working its way through priority groups, starting with the over 80s and care home residents and staff.
. The warned was echoed by the council's Trading Standards team, who said: "Scammers will use any situation to try and rip you off. "Just delete [the text] and do not click on any links."

Paul Jennings, chief executive of Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), branded the latest attempt to prey on public anxiety as "beneath contempt". He said that officials had been contacted by a number of elderly people for advice.
